Belle de Nuit
Akari Unfolded Collection For The Noguchi Museum
YMER & MALTA / Océane Delain
2018
A sculpture by day and a light sculpture by night, Belle de Nuit combines the delicacy of the thin metal bars and bisque volumes with the practical and modern lighting technology of a battery powered lamp.
The choice of materials was crucial to achieve the soft and natural candle light effect with a source in LED. The texture of the ceramic gives to each lamp its singularity.
The Belle de Nuit finds its origins in the prototyping process of the Belle de Jour lamps. Valérie Maltaverne fell in love with the raw plastic 3D-printed models made in the course of devising/formulating the shape for the larger Belle de Jour and decided to have them produced on a smaller scale. The striped texture of the 3D prototype is replicated in the fine porcelain made by a master ceramicist.
The Belle de Nuit family consists of four different sizes, XS, S, M and L and two ceramic textures, smooth or striped.
This piece was presented at The Noguchi Museum in New York.
